Acronyms
UPI News Bulletin--
The Congressonal Acronym Authority (CAA) and the Committee for
Allotment
of Acronyms (CAA) issued a joint statement Monday warning that
all Three-Letter
Acronyms (TLAs) will have exceeded the TUT (Triple-Use Threshold)
by
February, 2000. They estimate that the ensuing confusion
will have a greater
impact than that of the Y2K bug. Therefore, in an emergency
action Wednesday,
Congress passed a law requiring all new acronyms after January 1,
2000 to
have a minimum of four letters. These will be known as
MFLAs or MOFLAs
(which is more pronouncable). The PFV of this law is
$10,000 or six months in
jail, whichever is greater.
