We went canoeing on the Rand Brook yesterday. The purpose was ostensibly to pull up any purple loosestrife that we found, but mostly we enjoy the peace and beauty. At the southern end, just before the brook leaves our property, is a beaver dam that raises the water level about three feet. Lynn continues to fill out the front garden with plants; this one will be a seven-foot daisy. She found a camouflaged spider on the yellow blossom of another daisy. Here's a close-up. We share the property with so many animals. A garter snake left his skin. We found a young garter snake about the size of a pencil. We put a wicker chair on the deck, and Gidget immediately claimed it as a bed. Feature: I arranged a square-dance song for chorus, banjo, and bass.
