On October 18 the ladybugs descended.  They were all over the screens and doors and windows—hundreds of them.  It was impossible to go in or out of the house without letting some in.  We found the best way to get them out of the house was to vacuum them up with a Dust Buster, take it outside, open it up, and shake out the ladybugs.  On October 17th and 19th there were a few of them, but nothing like on the 18th.  Some friends in Vermont found the same thing.  How do they get coordinated?  It must be something about the weather.  Did you know there are no male ladybugs and no female bulldogs?
On October 19 we went with Lynn and John Roy to the Shelburne Museum in Vermont, primarily to see three quilt exhibits: Amish quilts, contemporary Vermont quilts, and "divinely inspired" quilts by Rosie Lee Tompkins.  We also toured the steamboat Ticonderoga that's part of the Museum.  It was moved from Lake Champlain two miles overland on specially built track in 1955.  Here are the two Lynns relaxing on the boat's opulent staircase.

Quote for the Day -
"I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do.  And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down.' "Bob Newhart
